XEP 4.19 released

RenderX has released XEP 4.19. This major release brings new extensions, output features and improvements:

  • RichMedia extension: interactive Flash applications in PDF, with flashvars and embeddable resources
  • PDF comments extension: sticky notes and file attachments
  • Overprinting control in PDF and Postscript
  • Extended XSL 1.1 scaling features: @allowed-width-scale, @allowed-height-scale and the values "scale-up-to-fit" and "scale-down-to-fit" of @content-width and @content-height
  • Styling for bookmark titles
  • All existing support for XSL 1.1 has been refactored from XSLT into Java code for higher performance and lower memory requirements
  • XForms option for XHTML output generator
  • XPS output producer supports SVG images

Other improvements include support for EXIF data in JPEG images, interlaced PNG images with alpha channel, refactoring and bugfixes in Thai processing.

The DocBench bundle now includes oXygen XML Editor 12.1.

VisualXSL 2.4.2 released

RenderX has released VisualXSL 2.4.2. This version resolves several problems:

  • Tables no longer have borders by default
  • Performance problems that may occur when loading and processing large documents with flow layout
  • Custom TranslateProject is now based on a template which body is a separate file rather than hard-coded
  • Fixed an issue with missing visual styles of checkboxes and radio buttons if they are used as Form fields

RenderX has released VisualXSL 2.4. This release includes support for Mvp.Xml EXSLT.NET module, support of document() XSLT function and bug fixes. The full list of improvements is below:

VDPMill 3.4 released

RenderX has released VDPMill 3.4. This major release includes a GUI application for full job control, lots of usability improvements and bug fixes. The full list of improvements is below:

XEPWin 3.0 released

RenderX has released XEPWin 3.0. This major release comes with support for multiple rendering threads. A multi-threaded server environment enables better utilization of computational resources in multi-core processors. XEPWin 3.0 also supports .NET Framework 4. The Windows service configuration and XEPWin API also have been significantly improved. The full list of improvements is below:

EnMasse 2.3 released

RenderX has released EnMasse 2.3. This release comes with platform-independent and Windows specific distributions. The platform-independent version is the direct successor of the previous EnMasse supplemented with command-line installer and configuration script. The Windows version is a new Windows package with graphical installer, configuration editor and Windows service. The full list of improvements are:

  • Distutils based command-line installer (platform-independent version)
  • Post-install configuration tool (platform-independent version)
  • Improved startup scripts for EnMasse and CLISER engines
  • Graphical installer (Windows version)

VDPMill 3.3 released

RenderX has released VDPMill 3.3. This major release includes the following:

  • Job Manager to queue jobs and process them sequentially
  • XML-RPC interface to Job Manager (server application, client libraries)
  • Control Panel Application to run/stop/configure XML-RPC Server and EnMasse, and for job monitoring
  • VDPMill Ticket light-weight application to create VDPMill Job Tickets using an user-friendly interface
  • Sequence numbering plugin for page numbering using several criteria

VDPMill 3.2 released

RenderX has released VDPMill 3.2. This major release comes with XML job ticket support as the main format for GUI application project files, customized post-processing (OMR, Transpromo) support for separated/joined output. API samples and documentation have been updated and some bugs fixed and minor improvements made. These include:

  • Sorting of the list of the input files by name/location/size/date modified
  • Processing log auto-scrolling
  • RenderX multi-product license key supported
  • AFP files generation improvements (resource file support)

VisualXSL 2.3.1 released

RenderX has released VisualXSL 2.3.1. This is a recommended bugfix release that includes several issues resolved, including:

  • Fixed severe problems with JavaScript for radiobuttons and action buttons in PDF forms;
  • Further improvements and bugfixes over Undo;
  • Fixed a display problem after changing frame orientation under certain conditions;
  • Fixed a problem of Z-Order property when multiple blocks are selected;
  • Fixed an issue with incorrectly relocated Table and Address frames;
  • Fixed an exception if browser preview window is no longer accessible under certain conditions;
  • Fixed several issues with multiple inlines within paragraphs;

RenderX has released VDPMill 3.1. This major release brings OMR and Transpromo support as well as other significant improvements:

  • The API now has a common plug-in interface for adding post-processing extensions;
  • Introduced OMR support;

VisualXSL 2.3 released

RenderX has released VisualXSL 2.3. This major release brings new fillable PDF forms with JavaScript capability, new output formats. Here’s the complete list:

  • Significant improvements over fillable PDF Forms. Now they are built with RenderX XEP and support most features from XEP, including fields, submit buttons, checkboxes, radiobuttons, and more;
  • Added feature of editing JavaScript event handlers for PDF Forms, associated with controls, pages, and documents;
  • Added support for different output formats, depending on those available in XEP license;
  • Major improvements over Paragraph editor (modifying and deleting fields, formatting and aligning the inlines);
  • Address Blocks are now can be edited like normal paragraphs and have custom layout and additional fields within;
  • Improved Page Numbering widgets;
  • Improved moving frames with mouse and keyboard (Ctrl and Alt handling);
  • New samples and workflows in User Reference;

Also, several problems have been resolved including:

  • Fixed several problems with Table builder that prevented toolbar buttons working correctly;
  • Improved new and rotated items layout on a dynamic flow;
  • Temporary folder leakage (lost files) eliminated;
  • Several bugfixes with clipboard operations (Copy and Paste);
  • Fixed issues with traces on the layout;
  • Fixed critical error during Undo operation with paragraph and address blocks;

  • Fixed an issue that prevented opening older versions of *.vxl files, and source files having CDATA elements;

XEP 4.18 released

RenderX has released 4.18. This major release brings a new backend, PPML as well as other significant improvements:

  • Additional support for document-level Javascript in PDF output, including such events as:
    • Document open, close
    • Object blur, focus, mousedown, mouseup, mouseenter, mouseexit
    • Document willclose, willsave, willprint, didprint
  • The XPS generator has been enhanced to support bookmarks
  • Multimedia objects in PDF are enhanced to support additional player controls (like play-mode, volume, duration) as well as being able to insert a poster file for the object in the PDF

A number of bugs have been fixed, including accented characters in some Type 1 fonts, word spacing in XHTML output, correct interpretation of stop-color in SVG gradients and proper positioning of diacritic marks in Thai vowel structure.

VisualXSL 2.2 released

RenderX has released VisualXSL 2.2. This release includes several important improvements:

  • Major improvements over Table Builder; it is no longer an extra window but a regular control;
  • Improved visual appearance for text blocks in Design layout;
  • Added more examples in User's Guide;
  • Improved layout of the User's Guide (PDF and CHM versions);
  • Improved navigation (modal dialogs, keyboard shortcuts, etc);

In addition, several issues that have been noted by users have been addressed including:

  • Fixed issues with moving multiple objects;
  • Fixed clipboard issues;
  • Fixed issues with Undo/Redo;

XEP 4.17 released

RenderX has released 4.17. This major release brings a new backend, XPS as well as other significant improvements:

  • Add <rx:media-object> to support insertion of multi-media content in PDF documents. Using this new extension available to all users, you can easily insert various multi-media objects into your PDFs, including:
    • Flash
    • AIFF
    • MPEG Audio and Video (MP3, MPEG-2, MPEG-4)
    • SMIL
  • PDF Forms has been enhanced to support inserting complete Javascript libraries and provides hooks for applying Javascript to fields.
  • PDFs as images now can be version 1.5 with xref streams.

A number of bugs have been fixed, including color bleeding of embedded PDFs, a linearization issue, an incorrect warning in tagged PDF and some positional issues with PDF Form fields.

The DocBench bundle now includes oXygen XML Editor 11.

Using RenderX XSL FO Technology
for Large Report Formatting

This paper presents concepts that can be applied to create a solution for very large report formatting. The concepts can be applied in parallel such that one can realize the creation of huge output documents with 100,000+ pages at very high performance. RenderX is about to release our newest application VDPMill. Using the concepts described in this paper, RenderX with VDPMill has reached new milestones in XSL FO formatting reaching formatting speeds greater than 250 pages/second and generating print output spool files exceeding even 500,000 pages.

XEP 4.16 released

RenderX has released XEP 4.16. This release adds the ability to create PDF Forms, and also includes improvements in SVG, HTML and AFP generators:

  • PDF Forms: a new extension allows to create interactive PDF documents.
  • HTML and SVG generators have an option to produce a single zip file with each page as a separate file inside it.
  • Another option in SVG and HTML generators allows to create just a few first pages for previewing.
  • SVGZ and XEPOUT images are supported in HTML and SVG generators.
  • Arbitrary processing instructions in fo:flow or fo:static-content are not discarded and appear in roughly the same places in XEPOUT.
  • AFP generator supports native JPEG images and IMM instructions.
  • Serialization of XEPOUT events became faster.

The DocBench bundle now includes oXygen XML Editor 10.3.

XEP 4.15 released

RenderX has released XEP 4.15. This major release brings a new backend, SVG improvements and performance related features:

  • HTML backend has been added. It generates a single HTML document that includes all pages.
  • SVG patterns and gradients are supported.
  • Opacity in SVG and alpha channel in PNG are supported in PDF backend.
  • A new option - IMAGE_MEMOIZE_THRESHOLD - protects against memory leaks on instream SVG and 'data:' images.
  • Less memory is required by PostScript generator.

A number of bugs have been fixed, including PDF linearization and positioning of Arabic diacritics. XEPWin 2.2 also runs on Vista 64bit and includes a number of configuration enhancements and bug fixes.

The DocBench bundle now includes oXygen XML Editor 10.2.

XEP 4.14 released

RenderX has released XEP 4.14. This major release brings quite a lot of new features and enhancements:

  • An SVG backend has been added. The new backend generates a single SVG document that includes all pages.
  • XEP Intermediate Format (XEPOUT) files are supported as external vector graphics files, e.g. for fo:external-graphic (the first page is displayed).
  • A new option - IMAGE_INLINE_THRESHOLD - allows to control placement of image data inside a PostScript document: It can be included either in the document setup or in page setup section, depending on the option's value of and the number of an image's appearances in the document.
  • The number of pages generated by an fo:page-sequence may be forced to be a multiple of N by using force-page-count="xN".
  • PDF/A compliance has been improved.

XEPWin now supports input files with embedded stylesheets. XEPWin's memory management has been improved: It can use a temporary directory, saving more memory for formatting. Some bugs have been fixed in the PostScript generator. Support for page-number-citation-last in the FO namespace has been restored.

The DocBench bundle now includes oXygen XML Editor 10.

DiType 2.2 released

RenderX announces a release of DiType 2.2. This version introduces backend configuration options, available as server-side configuration parameters and as per-document processing instructions: linearization, compression, user privileges and passwords for PDF generator; unicode annotations, initial view and zoom controls for PostScript; and other options. Other improvements are better support for TrueType fonts and faster rendering of tables.

DiType 2.1 released

RenderX announces a release of DiType 2.1. This version introduces:

  • SVG backend for fast preview;
  • support for XML Catalogs;
  • updated style sheets for DocBook and DITA, with configured XML catalogs;
  • unicode annotations in PDF output allow non-latin characters in bookmark titles;
  • configuration options allow to limit the size of external resources, both per resource and per document.
